When Estelle was six years old, her nanny at the time told her of Hiders and Seekers.
“You think hide-and-seek is a game, but one day you’ll see that everyone is either a Hider or Seeker,” Nanny Maureen explained.
“But can’t I be both?” Estelle asked.
“Be careful there,” she said. “Between two anythings are a lot of somethings. And sometimes a lot of somethings are harder to see than two anythings.”
When Estelle went on to be one of the first women in her family to go on to college, Nanny Maureen gifted her a camera, which accompanied Estelle wherever she went. The engraving on the back read: You’re it!
Forever in her life, she was a Hider, a Seeker, and a whole lot of somethings.
